Free and Confidential Pregnancy Testing

If you think you may be pregnant, your first step is to take a pregnancy test. Northfield Women’s Center offers free, lab-quality pregnancy testing by walk-in or scheduled appointments. Our tests offer immediate results and will allow our medical professionals to assess your situation and refer you for an ultrasound, performed by our Registered Diagnostic Sonographer.

How Do I Know If I’m Really Pregnant?

Before taking a pregnancy test, you may have some indication that you could be pregnant. Your body can give you certain signs and symptoms of pregnancy from the first few weeks after conception. According to an American Pregnancy Association survey, 29 percent of women reported a missed period as their first symptom, while 25 percent of women reported nausea as their first. While these are two common signs, there are a few other symptoms listed below that you may experience as well, including:

  • Swollen or tender breasts
  • Frequent urination
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Food cravings or aversions
  • Backaches
  • Mood swings

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, make an appointment for free pregnancy testing at Northfield Women’s Center.

How Does Pregnancy Testing Work?

Our lab-quality, urine pregnancy tests works by detecting a common pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). A woman’s placenta produces this hormone following conception and continues to increase in the body as the pregnancy progresses. While hCG can be found in a woman’s body a few days after the embryo attaches to the uterine lining, a pregnancy test cannot accurately detect the hormone until after a woman misses her period. If a woman takes a pregnancy test too early, it may produce inaccurate results.

What Is My Next Step After A Positive Pregnancy Test?

It is important to get your pregnancy confirmed by a medical professional before you make a decision regarding your pregnancy. While a positive pregnancy test can indicate pregnancy, it can only be confirmed through an ultrasound. If you receive a positive result from your pregnancy testing appointment at Northfield Women’s Center, we can provide you with a free, limited obstetric ultrasound. Make your appointment today.
